Biddeford, Maine – Saco, Maine
Biddeford and its twin city Saco are located in southern Maine on the coast of York County. Biddeford, the sixth-largest city in the state, is home to 21,277 residents and its northern neighbor, Saco, is home to 18,482. The two cities are separated by the Saco River, which drains into Saco Bay and the Gulf of Maine. Two large Maine organizations, Southern Maine Medical Center and the University of New England are located in Biddeford. Saco is home to General Dynamics Armament Systems, which employs many of its residents, as well as a popular Maine summer attraction, Funtown Splashtown USA.
Both Biddeford and Saco see a large influx of population during the summer months with the arrival of summer vacationers. Due to the cities' proximity to the Maine Coast, Old Orchard Beach, and various summer attractions, they are both popular summer destinations. York County's position as the second-most populous county in Maine, in addition to its high traffic volume of travelers, combine to make its roadways some of the most dangerous in the state. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Institute, in 2010, Biddeford, Saco and the surrounding county experienced 24 fatal traffic accidents; the only county to experience more was Portland's Cumberland County. Additionally, the State of Maine Bureau of Highway Safety reported that between 2006 and 2010 York Country ranked second-highest in motor vehicle crashes involving pedestrians, with 200, crashes involving motorcycles, with 553, and motor vehicle crashes involving bicycles, with 211. As documented by the Maine Department of Transportation, in 2010, car accidents involving excessive speed or alcohol use accounted for 223 and 555 crashes in York County respectively.
Here at Peter Thompson & Associates we have years of experience helping clients from Biddeford and Saco as well as those injured in the Biddeford/Saco area. One of our recent clients was crossing the street in downtown Biddeford, in a marked crosswalk, when she was struck by a vehicle making a left turn. The impact of this collision forced our client to the ground, causing injuries to her shoulder, back, and neck. For the next two years, our client underwent conservative medical treatment for her injuries, including extensive physical therapy. While her back and neck symptoms improved, her shoulder pain continued to plague her and, almost two years after the accident, our client had surgery on her shoulder to repair tendons torn in the crash. Further complicating matters, our client had a physically demanding job, from which she was forced to miss a great deal of time. Additionally, our client missed out on important family activities and traditions due to her injuries. It is essential to have an attorney who is able to present all aspects of your unique case to the insurance company.
Our office understands that medical treatment and physical damages are only part of your personal injury case. Fortunately for this client, our skilled attorneys were able to negotiate a settlement with the at-fault driver's insurance company to compensate our client for her past and future medical treatment, lost wages, pain and suffering, permanent shoulder impairment, and loss of enjoyment of life.
